The WWSL
I was fortunate to be a volunteer at the Shops while I was stationed at Fort Bragg North Carolina. Southern Railway FP7 #6133 was one of the locomotives I had the opportunity to work on during my tour of duty with the Shops.
My plan is to kitbatch this locomotive and show it on a display shelf.
Prototype Information
The EMD FP7 is a 1,500 horsepower (1,100 kW), B-B dual-service passenger and freight-hauling diesel locomotive produced between June 1949 and December 1953 by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division. The FP7 was essentially EMD's F7A locomotive extended by four feet to give greater water capacity for the steam generator for heating passenger trains.
A total of 381 cab-equipped lead A units were built; no cabless booster B units were built.

The locomotive was built by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in 1950. This FP-7, operated by the Southern Railway, was one of 20 purchased by the CNO&TP (Cincinnati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific) No. 6130–6149 . These were F-7 freight locomotives with a steam generator placed at the rear of the locomotive, increasing body length by four feet. The 6133 was donated to the NCTHC in 1980
Engineering
The FP7 was an upgraded version of the EMD F-series freight locomotives. Several railroads had tried EMD's F3 in passenger service, but there was insufficient water capacity in an A-unit fitted with dynamic brakes. Railroad solutions such as replacing the steam generators in A-units with a water tank, and fitting steam generators into the B-units were adequate but not optimal.
EMD's solution to the problem was to add the stretched FP7 to its catalog increasing the water storage capacity. The extra 4 ft (1.2 m) of length was added behind the first body-side porthole, and can be recognised by the greater distance between that porthole and the first small carbody filter grille. The corresponding space beneath the body, behind the front truck, was also opened up; this either remained an empty space or was filled with a distinctive water tank shaped like a barrel mounted transversely

Specifications The FP designation meant the locomotive could be used for passenger or freight trains, using a 567-B 16 cylinder prime mover, generating 1500 horsepower.

Project Process
I will kitbatch the kit, as a minimum upgrading the the handrails with brass parts, the couplers with Kadee No. 148 couplers, and adding additional details as appropriate.
Tools and Supplies ListPaint Scheme. Southern Railway FP7 #6133 was painted in the company's Crescent passenger paint
scheme (19xx). The entire body was Southern Crescent Green and Aluminum; running gear was black. This was the paint scheme I helped reproduce while I
was volunteering at The Spencer Shops.

Weathering: Southern No.6133 was in very well maintained shape for exhibition. There is no need to turn
