4.2.1.7 Turnout templates

 The WWSL

Templates can  be used to check or develop track designs and serves as guides in laying ties and rails. The templates are created, cut out and laid in position on the roadbed. The templates are moved along the roadbed by eye as necessary to test track arrangements until the most desireable arrangement is developed.

The WWSL maintenance of way common standards are based on the Shinohara / Walthers Turnout configurations. No.5 left and right hand, No. 6 left and right hand, No. 7 right hand, No. 8 left and right hand and No. 6.5 left and right hand curved turnouts.

Turnout templates

Each of those turnout configurations have their own template. I scanned the actual Shinohara / Walthers turnout and printed a scale sheet. Each template is sized to allow the scaled sheet and some rudimentary deconstruction and construction notations.

I created the following templates for each numbered turnout to be used to assist me in laying out the right of way:

No.5 left and right hand, No. 6 left and right hand, No. 7 right hand, No. 8 left and right hand and No. 6.5 left and right hand curved turnouts.
