2.3.21 Train Register Card

Prototype Information

There are several train registers used in prototype operations.

  • A "train register" is a book in which the railroad operators and junction tower signalman must record the time and description of every bell code sent or received, and any other information pertaining to the running of trains - such as abnormal events. The train register acts as a memory aid to the signalman, reinforces the systematic working of the block system, and serves as a permanent record of events in case of any mishap or accident.
  • Under Train Timetable and Train Order systems, a train register is a book that station operators use to record which trains have passed the station. Train crews check the register to learn if superior trains that they are concerned with have passed the station, so they know what action to take. Likewise, every crew must enter its train information in the register, so other crews will know about their train..

Here is an NP Train Register Check Form used to record train passage.

The WWSL

The WWSL also uses a Train Register Card at each station location. I have modified the NP format to reflect train direction (to avoid any confusion for new trainmen).

The train register card is located on the fascia at each location. Train crews enter information about their trains in the train register as they pass through the location.

Here is a copy of the WWSL Train Register Form. I have separated the northbound and southbound trains for ease of use.
